Going shopping with kids in tow isn't exactly what I call fun but its a job that needs to be done. Whenever possible I go alone, or with one kid. One kid makes it more bearable than two!

Tonight I got out for some shopping with Julian. This is the kid I prefer to shop with at this point. He doesn't climb out of the cart, hide in clothes racks, scream for every edible item we pass or cry for new toys.

Tonight's trip was especially funny. I told Julian on the way in that his cousin's birthday is coming up and he should start thinking about what he would want to get her. Without a thought he told me we should get her the Thumbelina DVD that coes with the Thumbelina doll. He told me how he has seen it on TV and thought Amiya would love it. I agreed it was a good idea. We got our cart and started in on our list.

Then he starts.

"Moooommmmm, when can we go to the barbie aisle?" I look around. Yep. People staring. Five year old boy whining to get to the barbie aisle. I might stare too. I tell him that when I finish shopping we will go look.

Next aisle. "Mooooommmmm, you are taking so long, I just want to see the barbies." Do you see where this is going? Aisle after aisle, again and again. Whining. Begging. He couldn't wait to see these barbies.

Then finally, we get to the barbie aisle. A previous gawker was shopping there. She looked over at him inspecting each Thum'belina doll. Then he says "mommmmm none of them come with the movie."

Gawker speaks "they had them on a display in the front but I think they are gone." I thank her. J pouts, then says "that's the only thing I wanted to get". I know what the gawker thinks. I'm okay with her thinking I have a thumbelina loving boy. He looks sad. Gawker says "Oh its okay, I'm sure your mommy will find you one so you can be happy. Do you have any other dolls?" Julian, obviously not as ok with her thinking he wants it for himself says "Are you kidding? I AM A BOY." Laughing. I can't stop. Poor kid. Poor gawker. Julian says "It's for my girl cousin." and starts to walk off. Me? Still laughing.

  4. That is hilarious. I'm with you - shopping with two kids is doable, but shopping with one (or none) is much easier.

    Thanks for the comment.
