A hike and a bike!

We took our boys to the woods, one of our favorite places. A lake so secluded it doesn't have a name. Near the peak of an unnamed (to our knowledge) mountain
on a logging road, above the Carbon River sits a beautiful, still, untouched, probably also unnamed, serene lake. One of my favorite places around here. It had been years since we went, everything has grown, and over grown. There used to be trails, no more. They have filled in. There are campsites in clearings but few people come to this place. I love it here! The boys, not so much. They prefer mosquito-free, waterless, and flat-land city life.

Along the way there are small falls that along the road, like these:

The road is ugly, and bumpy and takes a while to travel, but the journey is always worth it.

On the way to this beautiful place Julian saw a little motorcycle that he wanted. On the way home we stopped to look at it. It was $900 and wasn't gonna happen. Disappointement took over. If you remember 3 weeks back, on my blog, he just learned to ride his bike. His dad had told him previous to his learning that if he accomplished it he would buy him a low rider bike. Much to my dismay those bikes are $250-$400 and I really don't see him getting much use out of one. So, I decided to look around, and make sure that promise was kept (or traded). I offered to get him a motorcycle that had a maximum speed of 15mph instead of the low rider. He quickly agreed and it was off to TRU we went. We put it together and got it on the charger. Now the hard part. He had to wait 18 hours for it to fully charge before he could ride it. So, at 2pm on Sunday we let him go on it. We were a bit nervous. Was this too heavy for him? Would he crash? Is he REALLY ready? Well, too late now ... we bought it and now ...like many other kids, he was off! He rode like a pro. He crashed a couple times but didn't hurt anything more than his pride and his watch. He's on it as often as he can be and is loving every minute!
